HEIC to JPEG

Stop uploading your personal and work photos to random servers. Our free tool uses ImageMagick WASM to process your images directly in your browser. Your images never leaves your device, and your privacy remains absolute.

What does this tool do?

This tool converts images from the HEIC (High Efficiency Image File Format) to the universally compatible JPG/JPEG format. HEIC is a format introduced by Apple with iOS 11 that stores images at approximately half the size of JPGs without compromising quality. However, because HEIC is not supported by all platforms and web browsers, conversion is necessary for wide sharing.

Local Processing vs. Server-Side Processing

Most leading competitors, such as iLoveIMG, CloudConvert, and FreeConvert, utilize server-side processing. This means your images must be uploaded to their cloud infrastructure, where they are processed and temporarily stored—sometimes for several hours—before being deleted.

Our tool leverages ImageMagick WASM, bringing professional grade image processing directly to the client side. By executing the conversion within the browser’s sandbox via WebAssembly, we eliminate the “upload process download” cycle. This removes the risk of data interception or unauthorized server-side storage.

How to verify your privacy (Trust Test)

To prove that no data is being sent to a server, you can monitor the network traffic in real-time:

  1. Open your browser’s Developer Tools (Press F12 or Right Click → Inspect).
  2. Navigate to the Network tab.
  3. Upload a HEIC file and start the conversion.
  4. Observe that there are no POST or PUT requests containing your image data being sent to an external API; the processing happens entirely within a Web Worker.

How to interpret the output of this tool

The tool provides a standard JPG/JPEG image as output. You can control the Quality (e.g., 80%) to balance the trade-off between file size and visual fidelity. Since the output is a standard JPG, the resulting file can be opened by any image viewer, web browser, or social media platform .

Limitations of the tool

Browser Compatibility

Limitation: Because this tool relies on WebAssembly (WASM) for high-performance local processing, it will not work on outdated browsers.

Solution: If the tool fails to load or execute, please upgrade to the latest version of your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari) to ensure full WASM support.

Memory (RAM) Constraints

Limitation: Large images or massive batch conversions are processed in the browser’s memory. If the memory limit is exceeded, the browser tab may freeze or crash.

Solution: To prevent crashes, try processing images in smaller batches or converting files one by one. Additionally, closing other memory-intensive browser tabs can free up resources for the conversion process.

Processing Speed (CPU Performance)

Limitation: Unlike server-side tools, the conversion speed depends entirely on your local device’s CPU power.

Solution: If the conversion is slow, ensure that other CPU-heavy applications are closed in the background to allow the browser to dedicate more resources to the WASM execution.

Maximum File Size

Limitation: There is a physical limit to the amount of memory a browser can allocate to a single WASM instance. Extremely high-resolution HEIC files may exceed this limit.

Solution: For exceptionally large files, try to reduce the file size beforehand if possible, or ensure you are using a 64-bit browser version which generally handles larger memory heaps more efficiently.
